True West Custom Fly Rods is based out of Eugene, Oregon, where the famous McKenzie River flows into the Willamette River, and is home to many avid fly fishermen.  Tony Overstake is one of these fishermen that call Eugene home; and who, after over a decade of building rods for friends and family, started True West Custom Fly Rods. He first began building rods because as a passionate fly fisherman he wanted to be able to fish with the best rods on the market. Being a college student at the University of Oregon at the time, and not able to afford the best rods, he decided to build his own, and his love for the art of rod building was born. After years of honing his expertise he discovered his own techniques, the top performing components, and his own style, all of which set the vision for True West Rods.

As he began building the company, he realized he needed help both in the custom shop and especially on the marketing and development side of the business. This is when he joined up with his close friend Nathan Woods, an avid outdoorsman and an up and coming fly fisherman with a passion to learn the craft of rod building.  Nathan began by taking on the marketing and development of True West, and has developed into a very skilled rod builder himself. Together they have built around them a team of craftsmen that are setting the new standard for the fly rod market.

True West knows and cherishes the traditions of fly fishing and the fly rod, especially in the Pacific Northwest. However, we also know that with the advancements of the modern fly rod, new, innovative products can make a fly fisherman more effective and the experience more enjoyable. Instead of ignoring one or the other, True West embraces both the traditions that have produced the fly rod, and the new technology available in order to create a custom fly rod that is unsurpassed.

Going forward True West hopes to help advance both the sport and the fly fishing industry, especially with the next generation of fishermen. They also have a passion to make a positive impact on their rivers, lakes and the ocean, as well as their community.
